Padres and OF/1B Kyle Blanks avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $605,000 contract. Blanks was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The former top prospect was limited to just four games with the Padres this season prior to undergoing surgery in late-April to repair the labrum in his left shoulder. The Padres already have their outfield in place while Yonder Alonso is locked in as the starter at first base, so Blanks could be trade bait this winter.
