De Jong (knee) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
De Jong struggled to a 5.77 ERA in nine starts this season, striking out just 19.9 percent of opposing batters while keeping the ball on the ground at a very low 30.1 percent clip. He suffered a season-ending knee injury in July and eventually underwent surgery. Whether or not he'll be up to full speed by the start of spring training is not yet clear, but he'll face an uphill battle to make the Opening Day roster regardless of his health now that he's off the 40-man roster.
