Ortiz has been taken for X-rays after he fouled a ball off of his shin in the ninth inning of Thursday's game and needed help off the field, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

The team doesn't have the results of the X-ray yet, but will likely update the veteran slugger's status when they do. Boston certainly had a bad Wednesday -- announcing three separate injuries -- but the extent of the losses should be revealed in the next few days. If Ortiz were to miss extended time, Hanley Ramirez may be the top candidate to serve as the designated hitter.
