Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Joel Pineiro's shoulder surgery was "more extensive" than initially thought. Pineiro had surgery to repair a SLAP tear in the labrum in his right shoulder. He was already going to miss the rest of the season, but it's certainly conceivable that the operation could be a career-ender if the damage was really significantly worse than anticipated. Pineiro will turn 34 in September and will be a free agent this winter.
