Mitchell was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

Mitchell will head back to Triple-A after being called up Tuesday, going 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout while appearing in two games in the Pirates' series with the Cubs. In a corresponding move, Pittsburgh selected the contract of Nick Gonzales from Indianapolis, who will be set to make his major-league debut.
