Odorizzi gave up five runs on seven hits over three innings in a losing effort Wednesday against Boston. The loss dropped his record to 11-13 for the season, and while Odorizzi's 4.18 ERA leaves plenty to be desired, there were some encouraging signs in 2014. Most notably, Odorizzi increased his strikeout rate to 24.2% after sitting at 18.0% in his debut in 2013. Further, xFIP (3.89) and FIP (3.74) point to a potentially lower ERA if his skills hold, with room for further improvement if he's able to cut back on his free passes (8.2% BB%) or home runs (1.1 HR/9) in 2015.
