O'Brien has been discussed as a candidate to provide the Diamondbacks with outfield help, Barry M. Bloom of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With injuries to both A.J. Pollock and David Peralta thinning the Arizona outfield, manager Chip Hale said the team has discussed calling up O'Brien. "We talked about that scenario, getting him back up here and giving him an opportunity, but who are you going to sit?" Hale said. "It's hard to find a spot for a start. Would he be good off our bench?" For now, O'Brien will remain in Triple-A, where he has a .322 batting average, .993 OPS, 12 home runs and 31 RBIs in 35 games. He'd be a perfect fit as a DH, but for now the converted catcher will have to keep working on his outfield defense if he hopes to earn a regular role with the Diamondbacks.
