Oakland A's relief pitcher Sean Doolittle, who has pitched in just one game this year because of a shoulder injury, was activated from the 60-day disabled list Saturday, according to CSN Bay Area. Doolittle threw the ball well during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville, sporting a fastball that was clocked at 93 miles per hour while notching 13 strikeouts in six innings. Doolittle was expected to reprise his closer role season, and manager Bob Melvin said he hopes to have Doolittle back in the ninth inning at some point. The A's, though, will work him back gradually, Melvins said. "I want him to close," Melvin said. "I'm not sure we'll have him do that the first time out, but I want him to close." Drew Pomeranz could see opportunities in the ninth inning before Doolittle returns to the closer's role.
