Nova (5-4) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Nova deserved a little better fate after pitching at least seven innings in his third straight start, but his counterpart, Robbie Ray, was too much for the Pirate offense. Nova matched zeroes with Ray through the first five innings before allowing an RBI double to Chris Owings in the sixth. An infield single and a groundout plated two runs in the seventh, more than enough support for Ray. Despite the loss, Nova has been excellent in his first full season with Pittsburgh. He leads the National League in innings (77) and is fifth in ERA (2.92). Nova will get a longer than normal break before his next start. He is scheduled to face Kevin Gausman and the Orioles in interleague play on Tuesday.
