The Mets initially said when Almonte was removed from a game last Thursday with left calf soreness that it was precautionary, but it appears the injury is worse than expected. Almonte wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster, anyway, and it sounds like he might get a late start at Triple-A Syracuse.
