Newcomb was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.
EDGE Analysis
This seems to be a good indication that Newcomb is headed to the major leagues in short order to replace Bartolo Colon (oblique) in the rotation. He would be in line to start one game of Saturday's twin bill with the Mets. Newcomb continues to battle control issues in the minors (5.2 BB/9 this season, 4.8 BB/9 for career), but he's been able to minimize the damage from the free passes by missing bats at an excellent clip (11.5 K/9) and limiting the long ball.
