New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz is expected to throw a bullpen session next week as he recovers from a lat injury, according to ESPN New York. Matz went on the disabled list in early July as a result of the injury, but manger Terry Collins said he was happy with Matz's progress after playing catch from 60 feet Monday. "Very positive, very positive," Collins told New York Newsday. "No problems. I saw him the other day and he felt great. He couldn't wait to get back out and start playing catch, which he did today. So that's a good step." Matz, who allowed two runs over 13.2 innings over his first two major league starts before sustaining the injury, does not have a timetable for return. The Mets are in first place in the National League East with a 58-50 record.
