Nationals prospect OF Steven Souza homered for the second consecutive game on Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse. Souza, who turns 25 later this month, opened the season in a 1-for-11 funk, but the athletic outfielder since has settled in and is now 5-for-11 for two homers and seven RBI over his last three games. In 2013, Souza turned in a long-overdue breakout campaign at Double-A Harrisburg, batting .300/.396/.557 with 23 doubles, 15 home runs, 20 stolen bases and a 76/41 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 77 games. The Nationals' outfield is already overcrowded, but Souza, who's already on the team's 40-man roster, should be ready to make an impact this season if called on.
