Nationals optioned OF Steven Souza to Triple-A Syracuse. Souza was with the team as additional depth while Denard Span was on the disabled list with a concussion. He saw just five plate appearances in his five games with the club, going 1-for-4 plus a walk. He has a bright future and should get another chance with the Nats during the 2014 season.
