Moylan was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
With catcher Salvador Perez (quad) set to miss the next seven-to-10 days, the Royals decided to bolster their depth behind the plate, bringing aboard Tony Cruz from Triple-A Omaha. Since Perez figures to return before the 15-day minimum required for a DL stint, the Royals will avoid placing the backstop on the DL, and instead go with a shorthanded bullpen in the interim. Moylan will lose out on his 25-man roster spot in the process, but his sturdy 2.45 ERA over 7.1 innings with the Royals this season should earn him a trip back to Kansas City once Perez is back to full health.
