Motte was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The Rockies signed the veteran reliever prior to the 2016 campaign with the hope of bolstering their bullpen, but he struggled on the mound and with injuries, ultimately producing a lofty 4.94 ERA. This paired with his poor spring showing (8.31 ERA, 1.85 WHIP in 8.2 innings pitched) to lead the Rockies to cast him off the 40-man roster in order to make room for slugger Stephen Cardullo. If Motte chooses to accept the assignment to the minors, his major league experience could help him climb his way back to the big leagues, but there's a good chance he'll prefer to look for a major league contract with another club.
