Kyle Hendricks (hand) was placed on the disabled list Thursday, leaving a vacancy in the Cubs' rotation. Montgomery will fill that void for now, facing off with German Marquez of Colorado. The left-hander very well could stick in the rotation for another turn or two depending on the severity of Hendricks' ailment, although it appears to merely be a one-start assignment at this point.
