Miller (3-2) picked up the victory in a 6-4 defeat of the Blue Jays on Tuesday despite surrendering three hits, two earned runs and two walks over two innings. He also struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Miller was charged with protecting a 3-2 lead in the ninth and promptly surrendered a one-out, game-tying homer to Dioner Navarro. The ill-timed gopher ball was the first given up by hard-throwing reliever since a July 22 outing against the Orioles, a span of 22 outings leading into Tuesday's contest. After the Yankees had taken a 6-4 lead in the top of the 10th, Miller then gave up a 404-foot shot to Edwin Encarnacion to make things interesting in the home half of the inning. Despite the mistakes, Miller was able to avoid further damage and preserve the extra-inning victory. The four whiffs by the veteran reliever in Tuesday's appearance also give him a remarkable 23 in just 11 September innings.
