Mike Pelfrey revealed that he takes Adderall to treat ADHD while discussing the Miguel Tejada situation with the media. Tejada was reportedly slapped with the third-longest non-lifetime suspension in baseball history for using the medication. Pelfrey renews his therapeutic use exemption every year, while Tejada allowed his own exemption to lapse. Pelfrey believes Adderall could act as a performance-enhancer to players that haven't been diagnosed with ADD: "When you don't need it, it acts like a true amphetamine," he said. "I don't get all amped up on it. I'm probably more laid back when I'm on it. My thought process is toned down to one thing instead of 20 different things. Without it I'm pretty hyperactive and running around." The 29-year-old starter is 4-10 with a 5.26 ERA in 22 starts this season.
