Mike Leake was shelled for seven runs on eight hits over five innings Sunday in a loss to the Cardinals. Leake showed up to the park without his good stuff, walking two and striking out three. To Leake's credit, it seemed as though no pitcher in baseball could have solved St. Louis' offense this afternoon. After Leake was yanked at just 76 pitches, the Reds' bullpen surrendered eight runs over just four innings. Collectively, the Cincinnati staff required 160 pitches to escape nine innings. Coming off seven shutout frames against the Padres on Monday, it was a disappointing afternoon for Leake, who dropped to 10-5 with a 2.94 ERA and 1.20 WHIP.
