Miguel Montero was scratched from a second straight game Tuesday because of a swollen right thumb. The Diamondbacks thought Montero was dealing with a splinter so they had the thumb drained on Monday. But nothing was found beyond the puss. "Hopefully he can play [Wednesday]," manager Kirk Gibson told reporters Tuesday in camp. "It's much better. It looked like it might be getting infected yesterday, so we've been treating that for that, and it seems like it's been calming down."
