Mets prospect lefty Steven Matz struck out four batters over seven innings for Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday, scattering two hits and one walk. The two hits were a second inning home run by Sean Coyle and a fourth inning double by Blake Swihart. Matz has been dominant during his six starts in the Double-A Eastern League, holding the league to a .235/.274/.338 with an 8.3 K/9. He primarily relies on a mid-90s fastball with heavy sink and needs significant improvement on his secondary pitches, but his performance at a higher level has been very encouraging.
