Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that he still sees Marlon Byrd as a possible fit in center field. Byrd is a near-certainty to make the Opening Day roster at this point, but Collins hasn't made up his mind whether to play him in center field or right. Kirk Nieuwenhuis entered spring training as the favorite for the center field job, but he is trying to get over a recent knee injury and may be on the outside looking in for a roster spot. Collin Cowgill and Jordany Valdespin are among the alternatives to Byrd in center.
