Mets left-handed pitching prospect Steven Matz struggled in his Double-A debut on Saturday, allowing seven hits, two walks, and five runs over 5 2/3 innings. The 23-year old Matz dominated hitters in the Florida State League, holding them to a combined .255/.322/.313 line over 12 starts. He struggled against a lineup that included rehabbing big leaguer Nolan Reimold (0-for-1, 2 walks, strikeout) and prospect Christian Walker (3-for-3, single, double, homer). Matz's goal for his time in Double-A will be to develop more consistent secondary pitches or become a left-handed reliever.
