McKenry opted out of his minor-league contract with the Rangers on Saturday and will become a free agent, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
McKenry signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers in December with the hope that he'd eventually parlay the opportunity into a 40-man roster spot. However, even with Robinson Chirinos being placed on the 60-day DL early in the season with a broken forearm, the Rangers still didn't bring McKenry up, so he'll look to latch on with a different organization and work his way back to the big leagues. He was batting just .220 in 13 games with Triple-A Round Rock, but boasted a lofty .389 on-base percentage.
