McFarland was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday. Following a poor spring in major-league camp, McFarland will start his season in the rotation for Triple-A Norfolk. He's probably only eighth or ninth in the organizational pecking order among starters, so there's no guarantee he gets a shot in the major leagues this season. His best chance may be a small role out of the bullpen.
