McFarland was optioned to short-season Aberdeen on Sunday, MLB.com reports. The procedural move allows the Orioles to activate the newly-acquired Alejandro De Aza, who will be available off the bench Sunday. McFarland will return to the Orioles on Tuesday, when Aberdeen's season will have been completed.
