Matz will start the Mets' third game after the All-Star break, Sunday against the Phillies, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bartolo Colon will start Friday and then be followed by Logan Verrett, Matz, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard. The Mets were looking to give Matz, deGrom and Syndergaard some additional rest and accomplish this by starting Colon and Verrett the first two games after the break. Matz is pitching with a "significant" bone spur in his elbow that will require surgery after the season but the injury won't cause any additional damage to his arm. He is taking anti-inflammatory medicine on the day he starts to help him make it through each outing and Matz has said he is more at ease on the mound knowing the injury won't cause long-term damage.
