Matt Shoemaker earned his first career victory, allowing two runs over five innings as the Angels defeated the Phillies on Tuesday. Shoemaker is auditioning for the rotation spot vacated by the struggling Hector Santiago. The right-hander didn't have great results with Triple-A Salt Lake, but averaged better than a strikeout per inning and nearly three strikeouts for every one walk. On Tuesday, he allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out three. His next audition will come at home against the Rays.
