Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Joel Pineiro can opt out of his minor league contract if he's not added to the major-league roster by March 31. It's Pineiro's right under the rules of baseball's new collective bargaining agreement, as he's a player with more than six years of service time that signed a minor league deal after his major league deal expired. Not surprisingly, Pineiro said he's yet to give any thought about possibly opting out of the deal. "At the moment, I haven't even thought about that," he said. "I'm thinking the best thing is going to happen to me, whether it's here or with another ball club."
