Matt Garza will begin the season on the disabled list after he experienced a flare-up with his lat strain.

The Cubs had already considered him a longshot for Opening Day, but now they're just hoping to get him back by the start of May. The right-hander will be shut down for 5-7 days before resuming a throwing program. With Garza out and Scott Baker still working his way back from Tommy John surgery, that means Travis Wood and Carlos Villanueva will both break camp as members of the rotation.
