Matt Carpenter reached base in all six of his trips to the plate as the Cardinals downed the Royals 5-2 in 11 innings Wednesday night in Kansas City. Carpenter's biggest hit was a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the 11th inning that gave the Cardinals a lead they would not relinquish. Carpenter also had another double earlier in the game and tallied three singles while walking once. The second baseman now boasts a .395 on-base percentage, which is higher than his .392 mark from 2013, when he finished fourth in the National League MVP balloting.
