Matt Carpenter (oblique) took batting practice on the field Thursday afternoon at Busch Stadium. Carpenter told B.J. Rains of FOX Sports Midwest afterwards that he made some "aggressive cuts" and it "felt good." The 26-year-old utilityman is on track to return to the major leagues within the next seven days. He has been sidelined since May 23 with an oblique strain.
