Matt Cain turned in the worst start of his career Friday against the Dodgers, giving up eight runs in 2 1/3 innings. Cain had allowed nine runs twice before -- both times against the Cardinals -- but this is the highest ERA he's ever produced in a start. It comes after a five-start run in which he allowed a total of seven runs in 34 2/3 innings. We wouldn't take it as a sign that his ERA is about to jump over 5.00 again. He should certainly be better against the Mets in his final start before the All-Star break.
