Matt Cain struggled against the Padres on Tuesday, allowing five runs on seven hits in seven innings in a loss. He struck out six and walked a batter. Cain is coming off a month where he went 4-0 with a 1.65 ERA, so perhaps he was due a night off. He falls to 7-5 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. Cain has a date with the Mets this weekend.
