Matt Cain pitched well in a losing effort against the Padres on Friday, surrendering just two runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. The veteran right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the afternoon while walking three. All of the damage against him came in the third inning, highlighted by a solo homer by Alexi Amarista. Even with the solid outing, Cain sports a disappointing 4.27 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 66/30 K/BB ratio over 84 1/3 innings. He'll look to improve upon his 1-7 record when he takes on the Athletics on Wednesday.
