Marlon Byrd had the Mets' lone hit Saturday in the loss to the Orioles. The Mets opened the spring figuring they were going to need platoon partners for Kirk Nieuwenhuis in center and Mike Baxter in right, only to watch as those right-handed bats ended up winning starting jobs. The Mets will usually use Collin Cowgill in center and Byrd in right to start the season.
