Marlins manager Jack McKeon believes Mike Stanton can be a 30/30 player. "I told him, 'You can be a 30/30 guy, easy,'" McKeon said. "I've just got to sell him on the idea that this is what you've got to do." Stanton, despite being 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, is athletic. But he's only 8-for-12 in stolen base opportunities over 189 games for the Marlins. He stole eight bases in 324 minor league games. "Once I learn how to steal bases, I think I can (steal more)," Stanton said. "I just need to learn." Certainly Stanton's fantasy value would increase if he stole more bases, but we're doubtful that he'll ever turn into much of a threat on the base paths.
