Mariners optioned 2B Dustin Ackley to Triple-A Tacoma. Ackley was batting just .205/.266/.250 with one home run and eight RBI through 171 plate appearances. The M's could not afford to wait any longer for him to heat up and have promoted top infield prospect Nick Franklin in a corresponding move to provide an offensive spark.
