Mariners manager Scott Servais said Sunday that Gallardo isn't certain to remain in the rotation ahead of his next schedule start against the Angels next weekend, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since returning to the rotation July 23, Gallardo has been hit hard more often than not, as his 6.23 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over that span illustrates. His poor outing Saturday against the Athletics may have been the final straw, as Gallardo lasted just three innings and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks in a no decision. Meanwhile, Marco Gonzales, who had recently been ousted from the rotation following the acquisition of Mike Leake, fired four scoreless innings in long relief, perhaps making Servais eager to give Gonzales another look in a starting role. The Mariners are expect to reach a decision on Gallardo's status as a starter within the next couple of days.
