Mariners and RHP Shawn Kelley avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $935,000 contract. Kelley requested $1.2 million and the Mariners offered $750,000 when the two sides exchanged arbitration figures on January 18. Kelley posted a 3.25 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 45/15 K/BB ratio over 44 1/3 innings in 2012.
