Machado was dropped to sixth in the order Monday but he went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Machado entered the game just 1-for-19, but he responded by showing signs of life at the plate for the first time this season. Machado is a boom or bust candidate this season, as he went from 14 home runs in 2013 to 12 home runs in the first half of 2014 before a knee injury wiped out his second half. One of his problems has been working the count as Machado has walked in just 4.7% of his career plate appearances.
