Machado (knee) was placed on the 15-day DL on Wednesday, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports. After Machado was diagnosed with a knee ligament sprain following an MRI on Tuesday, it seemed only a matter of time before he would land on the DL. While the Orioles don't have an exact timetable for his return, the team isn't ruling out a comeback for this season, though it will obviously hinge on how well Machado progresses over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, Machado's injury leaves the Orioles with rather untenable replacement options at third base, with the light-hitting Ryan Flaherty looking like the top candidate to pick up at-bats at the position. Chris Davis may also move from first base to third on occasion to boost the team's overall offense, but he could be a liability defensively if forced to play the position too frequently.
