Lugo (elbow) was able to throw a 20-pitch side session off the rubber Tuesday, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.

In his most recent throwing session Sunday, Lugo was restricted to tossing off the slope of the mound, so the fact that he was on top of the mound two days later marks a small step forward. The right-hander opened the season as the Mets' long man out of the bullpen, but if he meets his goal of returning from the disabled list by late May, Lugo could assume a rotation spot with Noah Syndergaard (back) at risk of missing the next several months.
