Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Howie Kendrick was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday because of a strained left hamstring, according to the Los Angeles Times. Kendrick suffered the injury while beating out an infield hit in Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and will be out until at least Aug. 24. The 32-year-old has a lengthy history of hamstring injuries and has missed upwards of six weeks with similar issues in the past, indicating that he could be out longer than 15 days. "He leaves a big void," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "For me, Howie is just a bread-and-butter leader. A big part of us. We'll talk about different options." Kendrick has enjoyed a strong season, fortifying the infield defense and batting .296 in the middle of the order. Infield prospect Jose Peraza was called up to fill the team's open roster spot.
