Logan Morrison intends to speak with the player's union to see if he has grounds to file a grievance against the Marlins for optioning him to Triple-A New Orleans.
"We are going to, with absolute certainty, explore this and contact the union and make sure Logan's rights are protected," said Fred Wray, Morrison's agent. "It doesn't seem like everything adds up here." Wes Helms was released at the same time that Morrison was demoted after advising the young outfielder not to attend a team-related function before Saturday's game. Florida claims both decisions were based on on-field performance, though Marlins GM Larry Beinfest essentially confirmed that Morrison was optioned for reasons other than performance, saying Morrison "needs to concentrate on all aspects of being a major leaguer." Morrison was batting .249 with 17 homers (second on the team) and 60 RBI (third).
