Locke was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Locke has fallen far from his earlier times in the Pirates organization, as he was only able to muster a 5.44 ERA last season and even was demoted to the bullpen for a portion of the campaign. With the Pirates needing a spot on the 40-man for recently-acquired Lisalverto Bonilla, it seems like Locke's time in the Steel City is coming to a close. The lefty's recent numbers leave much to be desired, but if he can produce anywhere near the numbers that helped him become a mainstay in Pittsburgh's rotation in the first place, he could prove to be a decent and inexpensive option for teams in need of pitching depth.
