The Gold Glove outfielder landed on the disabled list Thursday after trying to play through a torn ligament in his thumb. Lagares will go the rest-and-rehab route in hopes of avoiding surgery to repair the ligament during the season. Still, it may take some time for the Mets to determine whether the current rehab plan is working to the point where Lagares would be able to avoid surgery.
