Lagares has been trying to play through a painful thumb injury for the last two weeks, but the ailment had limited him to a bench role in that span. His thumb injury flared up again Wednesday, leading him to be scratched from the lineup and ultimately the Mets decided Thursday that a DL stint would be the course of action. The Mets recalled Ty Kelly in a corresponding move Thursday.
