Kimbrel (knee) has been activated from the 15-day DL, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

Although he did not fare well during his rehab appearance Saturday at Triple-A Pawtucket, Kimbrel held up physically and should immediately reprise his role as the closer in Boston, providing a much needed boost to the bullpen. Kimbrel's activation falls at the short end of the initial three-to-six week timetable provided after he was diagnosed with a left medial meniscus tear on July 9.
